Nigerians React As DSS Allegedly Arrests Ganduje’s Aide for Criticising Government

Our Reporter

Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn the arrest of Salihu Tanko Yakasai, the Special Assistant to Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano state on Media and Publicity.

Yakasai was allegedly picked up by men of the Department of State Security (DSS) at the late hours of yesterday, Friday for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari-led government over insecurity in the country.

Yakasai, popularly called Dawaisu on Friday took to Twitter to react to the abduction of over 300 school girls in Zamfara state.

“Just last week it was #freekagaraboys, today we have a new hashtag #RescueJangebeGirls, who knows tomorrow what hashtag we will come up with? Perhaps one for ourselves when we get caught up in one of these daring attacks. This is sad & heartbreaking, I feel helpless & hopeless.

“Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives & properties. Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign,” he tweeted.

A source revealed that Yakasai has been moved to the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

Nigerians React

Political activist, Omoyele Sowore has taken to Twitter to condemn the arrest of Yakasai.

“#FreeDawaisuLawless DSS has arrested @dawisu for freely expressing his views regarding the failure of the @MBuhari’s govt. The DSS lazy leadership can’t help Nigerians facing insecurity but only ready and happy to pounce on Nigerians critical of the failing regime #BuhariMustGo,” he tweeted.

The Director General of Information and Communication Technology in Sokoto state, Nasir Daniya also took to Twitter to condemn the arrest of Yakasai.

“So @dawisu was ‘taken’ by the DSS for constructively criticising the Government he worked hardest to build, the Buhari he’s been supporting since 2011! The APC he took political bullets for! You’re only making him popular & loved by Nigerians. Now #FreeJangebeGirls, #FreeDawisu,” he tweeted.

For Dr Ayo Sogunro, Yakasai, being a supporter of President Buhari’s government, only speaks when he’s being affected by the cruelty of the government.

“Dawisu was an active supporter of Buhari’s govt when it oppressed people he disliked. He changed only when the govt’s cruelty and incompetence started affecting people he cared for.

“That said, it is wrong for the DSS to arrest anyone for criticising govt. This madness must end,” he tweeted.

DPH NEWS founder, Saleh Faruq Gagarawa has also reacted to his arrest.

According to him, “although @dawisu has been a bad boy playing a vital role in the dethronement of @MSII_dynasty but we’ll not allow dictators to abuse his fundamental human rights.

“He has been the only one within the party boldly saying the truth to the Presidency.”

Critics Gone into Hiding

Many critics, for the fear of being arrested, have apologized while some have gone into hiding.

An Arewa Twitter influencer, known as Waspapping has taken to twitter to apologise for criticising the government.

“My sincerest apologies to this government for my recent criticism. After-all I’m a good advocate of this administration. Long may it reign,” he tweeted.
