Highland Park shooter Bobby Crimo: A quiet loner

As is so often the case with these shootings, the main suspect in the Highland Park shooting has been described as a quiet, lonely person who no one would have expected this from.

Despite his online activity showing flirtations with extremist symbols associated with both the right and the left, and a fascination with violence, Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo‘s alleged actions appear to have taken those around him by surprise.

Paul Crimo, the suspect’s uncle, spoke to CNN denied awareness of the 22-year-old’s political beliefs, which he apparently kept private.

“He’s a quiet kid. He’s usually on his own. He’s a lonely, quiet person. He keeps everything to himself,” said Paul Crimo.

“We are good people here, and to have this is devastating.

“I’m so heartbroken for all the families who lost their lives.”

Violent rap videos

Robert Crimo’s online activity, read in hindsight, reads like a grim warning, a foreshadowing of the tragedy to come.

He hosted a Discord group called “SS” on which he shared many violent images and videos, including of mass shootings and public killings.

Crimo was also a rapper who went by the name ‘Awake the Rapper’ and his music videos included representations of school shootings and shooters getting killed by police.

“He always seemed a little off, but I can’t describe it much beyond that,” said Mark Heymann, a high school classmate.
