The Galvanizing Mass Action Against Gender-Based Violence in Kano state, GMAAK on Tuesday paid an advocacy visit to Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.
The group which was led by the Executive Director of Bridge Connect Africa Initiative, Sani Mohammed visited the speaker in his office in a bid to ensure quick passage of Child Protection Bill in the state.
The speaker pledged his full support for the speedy passage of the Bill which has sailed through second reading in the House.
Chidari also reiterated his commitment towards passage of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act once its gets to the House.
If passed, the legislations will help provide functional systems and provisions that cover a range of gender based violence issues; including rape, domestic violence, child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation. It will also compliment the important strides of the Kano State Government in promoting free and compulsory education in the state.
In his concluding remark, Chidari called on all concerned stakeholders working on sexual and gender-based violence and child’s rights to not relent in their effort towards the domestication of the Child Protection Bill and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act.
